2018. One would expect humanity to have flourished technologically over the past 10 years, but instead, it finds itself still lost in the primitive ways of the Y2K Millennium. Humankind has completely steered clear of the technological bliss of hover cars and teleportation devices. There was no computerized disaster that destroyed the major cities of the world. There were no advances in scientific discovery. However, the world did manage to change, a small part of it at least, perhaps for the better, maybe for the worse. In the year 2002, a massive earthquake plagued Japan, creating great land upheavals and massive floods that would tear through the capital city of Tokyo. That massive wave of destruction would plunge the country into anarchy. Families were separated. Thousand were killed. Millions of dollars were withdrawn in order to bring the nation of Japan to what it had once been.
As it would seem that many were lost to this immeasurable natural disaster, the citizens of Japan were not completely lost. Many were saved and relocated to other countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, separating them from their families. Amidst the hope given by the number of survivors, the question still remained. What had caused such a seismic earthquake? Some blamed pollution. Others blamed Global Warming. Lost in these ecological blunders were the rumors of a mysterious Redman. Was it blood or some sort of coloring dye that gave this man hidden under a steel strait-jacket his red hue? The numerous reports of the Redman, which were thought of nothing more than mass hysteria, comprised of a vivid tale of a smirking crimson-hued red man who slaughtered a handful of people, right before shooting a select few with some sort of blood-tinted glass. While many thought of these stories to be fabrications of the media, they were in fact the first noted events of the Japanese citizens being infected by the Branch of Sin. The Wretched Egg had risen up to release this plague upon the world. This so-called evil was a slow but sure sickness.
In the span of ten years, the regimes of the illustrious United Nations collaborated their efforts in order to restore Japan to its former glory. This proved a more difficult task than ever before; with over 70% of Japan’s land now resting under the sea. The major problem however, was that during the great disaster, the various Japanese prisons had been desecrated, allowing hundreds of inmates to inundate the rest of the population. To those convicts, the fact that the country was in ruins was insignificant. The thousands of people who lost their families or lives didn’t matter. This new Japan was a playing field, and for them, it was the perfect field day for them to loot and murder as they pleased. With the knowledge that criminals of all sorts of degrees were running free through the ruins of old Japan, who would want to return? And then, one man changed everything with a proposition. This man referred to himself as the Director, and promised that if the rest of the nation was left to him, then he would make sure Japan would return into the place people once called home.
Deadman Wonderland. Ships, helicopters, and planes of all shapes and sizes brought citizens of Japan back home, as they were greeted with loud music and bright lights. What was this festivity? In the wake of the disaster that had Japan had just faced, a small city-sized prison encased by a 30 foot steel wall had risen from the ashes of the once fallen country. This prison was the fruit of the Director’s labor. It was a large prison disguised as an amusement park; it was a place where people could forget about the past while being served by the criminals of Japan. Underneath the fake smiles and fun attractions lay the dark side of Deadman Wonderland. Unknown to the public and some of the staff, various inmates were innocent of crimes they had been accused of, yet they were still stained by sin. The red man had caused many to find themselves face to face with accusations of crimes they hadn’t committed or didn’t remember committing. All of those people have been sent to Deadman Wonderland, their true crime being mere seeds of sin birth from that demonic man they all had encounters with. That very same man is actually Deadman Wonderland's most prized and best kept secret... So then who are you? A new prisoner, one of the many on death row? A staff member of the prison? Or by chance you're one of the Deadmen? Regardless of what you are...
